Dirt Simple ‘Book to e-Book’ Scanner

This portable, low-cost device allows you to convert standard books into word-searchable e-books.  For less than $20 in costs and a few hours, it’s a fun, simple way to digitize old world media.  All you need is a digital camera and a few hardware components.

The step by step guide walks you through the assembly of the camera mount and a metal frame that will flatten out the pages of the book.  The press allows you to adjust the frame to scan books or magazines of nearly any size.

It’s super easy to use too. Turn the page, take a photo, repeat.  The page images can then be inserted into a MS Word file and converted to a PDF. Using some OCR software like Abbyy Transformer, books can be turned into word searchable digitized eBooks.
